The early days of the Syrian revolution were marked by a large number of voluntary defections from the official army of Bashar al-Assad. These soldiers will implement a new visual codification based on the symbolic gesture of showing their identity card in front of the camera.

Attesting to their word at the risk of their life and that of their family, this strong visual gesture is accompanied by a zoom movement of the camera. This double movement of demonstration and zoom is a fundamental element of the defection. It creates a new form of political protest based on the use of movement as the reappropriation of individual time and the body politic.
